Ready to dance? Start with the essential dance elements below.

Learning the Steps

After learning all of the essential dance elements, you are now ready to learn the important steps in the choreography! After practicing the steps below, you can move on to the last section of the program, in which we will show you how to connect the steps. Have fun dancing!

Learning the Choreography

Now, let’s put all of the steps you’ve learned together into this lovely routine! To learn the routine, we suggest you learn it in sections. Practice each section without music first and then with music. Also, watch the demo video and use the written instruction listed below for musical cues. Have fun!

Written Instructions

Intro (12 counts) -

  • Wait for 4 counts for the beat to kick in

  • Walk in together, follower on the left hand side of the leader

  • Follower walks in front of leader, clockwise turn to get into frame on 6, 7, 8


Verse Pattern (2 counts of 8) -

  • Half basic to inside overturn into shadow

  • Half forward basic, step out to side by side on 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Roll into two hand hold on 5, 6, 7, 8


Transition 1 (3 counts of 8) -

  • “They said…” Leader goes counterclockwise under both arms (cross hand hold)

  • “...I bet…” Follower goes under, continues clockwise turn to get into hammerlock position on “...they’ll never make it.”

  • Hammerlock walk on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

  • Leader goes under left arm and get back to back on 7, 8

  • Back to back lean on “...together…” or 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Two counterclockwise turns for the follower on “...going strong.” or 5, 6, 7, 8


Chorus Pattern (4 counts of 8) -

  • 2 Single swing basics

  • Cradle

  • Typewriter to shadow position on leader’s left side

  • Lean on 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Leader goes around the follower from right to left on 1, 2, 3

  • Leader hugs follower on 4 or “love”

  • Clockwise turn for the follower on 1, 2, 3

  • Leader’s double face loop on 4 or “of”

  • 4 sways on 1, 2, 3, 4, dip on 5, 6, 7, 8


Repeat Verse Pattern


Transition 2 (3 counts of 8) -

  • 2 Two step basics

  • Follower’s double right turn 

  • Step into side by side on 1, 2

  • Switch places on 3, 4, roll into back to back on 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Back to back lean on “...together…” or 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Two counterclockwise turns for the follower on “...going strong.” or 5, 6, 7, 8


Repeat Chorus Pattern 

  • Hold final dip for 3-5 seconds, song fade at ~2:20
