Learning the Steps

After learning all of the essential dance elements, you are now ready to learn the important steps in the choreography! After practicing the steps below, you can move on to the last section of the program, in which we will show you how to connect the steps. Have fun dancing!

Learning the Choreography

Now, let’s put all of the steps you’ve learned together into this lovely routine! To learn the routine, we suggest you learn it in sections. Practice each section without music first and then with music. Also, watch the demo video and use the written instruction listed below for musical cues. Have fun!

Intro (2 counts of 8 + 2 counts) -

  • Walk on the floor for 3 counts

  • Clockwise turn for the follower on 4, continue to walk around leader on 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3

  • Roll into cradle on 4; Lean on 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Extra 2 counts to unwind into frame


Pattern 1 (4 counts of 8) -

  • Box

  • Underarm turn

  • Box

  • 5th Position Break

  • Box

  • Box with quick outside turn to transition


Pattern 2 (2 counts of 8) - 

  • Helicopter for 6 counts

  • Leader continues around follower on 7, 8 to get into cradle position

  • Roll follower out on 1, 2; roll back in on 3, 4

  • Dip on 5, 6, 7, come up on 8 in two hand hold


Chorus (2 counts of 8) -

  • 2 Smooth swing basics

  • Leader’s wrap to inside turn

  • 2 Smooth swing basics

  • Slow send out and bring follower back into frame


Repeat Pattern 1

  • Half inside turn instead of outside turn to get into shadow position



Pattern 3 (2 counts of 8) - 

  • 2 Progressive steps (same footwork for leader and follower)

  • Side hesitations: left on 1, 2, then right on 3, 4

  • Lunge left to wind up for 5, 6, clockwise turn and a half to face leader 


Repeat Chorus


Pattern 4 (6 counts of 8) - 

  • Sway for 8 counts

  • Send out for 4 counts, double counterclockwise turn to shadow position for 4 counts

  • 2 Progressives in shadow position

  • Lunge left to wind up for 4 counts, clockwise turn and a half to face leader for 4 counts (face loop for leader)

  • Box

  • Box with inside turn

  • Box with quick outside turn to transition


Modified Pattern 2 (2 counts of 8) - 

  • Helicopter for 8 counts

  • Leader continues around follower on 1, 2, 3, 4 to get into cradle position

  • Lean for 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2,

  • Roll follower out on 3, 4, 5, 6; roll back in on 7, 8

  • Dip on 1
