Ready to dance? Start with the essential dance elements below.


Learning the Steps

After learning all of the essential dance elements, you are now ready to learn the important steps in the choreography! After practicing the steps below, you can move on to the last section of the program, in which we will show you how to connect the steps. Have fun dancing!

Learning the Choreography

Now, let’s put all of the steps you’ve learned together into this lovely routine! To learn the routine, we suggest you learn it in sections. Practice each section without music first and then with music. Also, watch the demo video and use the written instruction listed below for musical cues. Have fun!

Written Instructions


Intro (6 counts of 8) -

  • Start in two-hand hold rotating counterclockwise for 2 counts of 8

  • Hit a hammerlock on 1, hold 2, 3

  • Unwind and wind into cradle on 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Lean on 1, 2, 3, pop up on 4

  • Roll out 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Leader’s face loop on 1, both partners look away from each other

  • Look at each other on 4; leader walks back and bring follower along on 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Circle dip for a full 8


Chorus Pattern (4 counts of 8):

  • Salsa followers right turn

  • Forward basic

  • Cross body lead into cradle (hold on 4)

  • Roll out 5, 6, 7

  • Roll back into to 2 hand hold on “8 and” - leader offers hands on “hold” and follower takes it on “hands”

  • 2 forward basics with hands coming up and down Dirty Dancing style 

  • Alternating turns w/ face loop


Rumba Pattern (2 counts of 8): 

  • Box with inside turn 

  • Box with half turn to get into shadow

  • Half box to peek a boo on “pass through” on 3, 4, arm comes up and over 6, 7, 8

  • Double counterclockwise turn for the follower for a full 8



Repeat Chorus Pattern



Highlight (8 counts of 8) - 

  • Open up and walk back in slow, quick-quick, slow timing for 6 counts

  • Rock back on 7, 8

  • Follower crosses over on 1, 2 and does two counterclockwise turns on 3, 4

  • Turn away from leader & walk together on 5, 6, 7, follower turns back to the leader on 8

  • 2nd Position breaks with leader moving backward for a full 8

  • Follower pivots to the right as the leader walks around them for a full 8 (optional slide for the leader)

  • Salsa forward basic

  • Cross body lead

  • Follower’s right turn

  • Half back basic to separate on 7, 8 

  • Left foot out on 1, right out on ‘and’, back together on ‘2 and’

  • Swivel left on 3, right on ‘and’, kick left leg up 4, foot down on ‘and’

  • Pivot turns on 5, 6; trust fall on 7, 8

  • Follower walks to find leader for a full 8 (optional kicks for leader and/or follower)


Quick Transition (2 counts of 8) - 

  • Two-hand hold rotating counterclockwise for 8

  • Outside turn on 1, 2, come behind the leader’s back on 3, 4, 5, 6

  • Quick turn on 7, 8 to get into frame


Repeat Chorus Pattern


Ending:

  • Death drop to finish

    • Keep the hands in handshake at the end of the alternating turns INSTEAD of the face loop

    • Leader offers the left hand under the right hand, and follower drops into position

    • Optional: dip instead of death drop to finish!
