Learning the Steps

After learning all of the essential dance elements, you are now ready to learn the important steps in the choreography! After practicing the steps below, you can move on to the last section of the program, in which we will show you how to connect the steps. Have fun dancing!

Learning the Choreography

Now, let’s put all of the steps you’ve learned together into this lovely routine! To learn the routine, we suggest you learn it in sections. Practice each section without music first and then with music. Also, watch the demo video and use the written instruction listed below for musical cues. Have fun!

Written Instructions

Intro (3 counts of 8) -

  • Walk on the floor together, follower steps in front of leader, continue bringing leader onto the floor

  • Sway for the first 8 count

  • Half basic to inside turn


Slow Foxtrot Pattern (3 counts of 8) -

  • Dip on “honeymoon” for 4 counts

  • Slow foxtrot basic

  • Left rock turn

  • Single promenade with underarm turn

  • Lean (facing opposite directions) for 4 counts

  • Double spin on 5, 6, 7, 8 (leader needs to switch from left to right hands after first spin)


Chorus (3 counts of 8, 1 count of 4, 1 count of 10) -

  • Follower’s half turn on “so” with left arm coming out (count 1)

  • Right arms out in Titanic position on “much” (right before count 2)

  • Hug follower on “more” (right before count 3), and hold on 4

  • Hug assisted lift on 5, 6, 7, 8

  • Left arms come up and over the follower’s head on “in” (count 1)

  • Right arm same on “too”, double spin for the follower on 3, 4, 5, 6

  • Leader’s face loop on 7, 8

  • Single swing basic

  • Cradle to lean on 1, 2, 3, 4

  • Reverse the cradle, roll out on 5, 6, free spin back in 7, 8

  • Arm styling for the follower for 2 counts


Repeat Slow Foxtrot Pattern (cut the dip from the beginning)

  • Add one promenade before the promenade with underarm turn


Repeat Chorus Pattern (3 counts of 8, 1 count of 4, 1 count 8)


Highlight (2 counts of 8) -

  • Sway for the first 8 counts

  • Transition into a continuous tuck on 1, 2, 3

  • Dip on 4, 5, 6, 7, come up on 8


Repeat Chorus Pattern


Ending (~1 count of 8) -

  • Circular dip on 3, 4, 5

  • Outside turn to lasso during the quiet moments

  • One more outside turn to final dip on last “I don’t love you like I used to”
