Learning the Steps

After learning all of the essential dance elements, you are now ready to learn the important steps in the choreography! After practicing the steps below, you can move on to the last section of the program, in which we will show you how to connect the steps. Have fun dancing!

Learning the Choreography

Now, let’s put all of the steps you’ve learned together into this lovely routine! To learn the routine, we suggest you learn it in sections. Practice each section without music first and then with music. Also, watch the demo video and use the written instruction listed below for musical cues. Have fun!

Written Instructions

Intro (2 counts of 8) -

  • Walk in together

  • Clockwise turn for the follower while the leader walks around clockwise

  • Two hands up over the follower’s shoulders to get into frame


Pattern 1 (3 counts of 8, 1 count of 6) -

  • Slow dance half basic to inside turn

  • Half forward basic

  • Leader brings the follower back around

  • Helicopter in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ hand position

  • Inside turn to dip with leader’s face loop


Pattern 2 (1 count of 6, 2 counts of 8, 1 count of 6) -

  • Slow foxtrot basic

  • Left rock turn

  • Grapevine

  • Left rock turn

  • Left rock turn with double outside turn


Chorus Pattern (5 counts of 8) -

  • 2 Boxes

  • Butterfly with modified ending

  • Leader’s face loop on ‘be’ (count 4)

  • Follower walks around on 5, 6, 7

  • Inside turn on 8 in front of the leader to rotating arabesque for a full 8

  • Circular dip for 4 counts

  • Lover’s lean for 4 counts


Repeat Pattern 2


Transition (4 counts of 8) - 

  • 2 Boxes in outside partner position

  • Underarm turn


Repeat Chorus Pattern

  • Instead of lover’s lean, inside turn to get into ending pattern 


Ending (1 count of 4, 3 counts of 8, 1 count of 2, 1 count of 8, 1 count of 4) -

  • Follower reaches out with both hands; leader catch follower’s waist

  • Rotating circle dip for a full 8

  • Box

  • Twinkle to side by side

  • Infinity to inside turn

  • Repeat helicopter with ‘Romeo & Juliet’ hands

  • Inside turn with leader’s face loop 

  • Slow lovers lean to end
